Nest & Flourish Interiors Featured in The York Press: How Nursing Expertise Is Transforming Inclusive Interior Design
Nest & Flourish Interiors is proud to be featured in The York Press, highlighting founder Kim Heslip’s inspiring journey from NHS nursing to becoming a leading voice in inclusive, wellbeing‑focused interior design. The article shares how Kim’s 20‑year healthcare career continues to shape her mission to create beautiful, accessible spaces for people with diverse needs.
A Career Rooted in Care - Now Expressed Through Design
The feature explores how Kim, a mum of four living near Tadcaster, retrained in interior design after experiencing burnout during the pandemic. While home‑schooling her children and working in the NHS, she realised she needed a healthier work–life balance and a new way to channel her passion for creating supportive environments.
Drawing on years of seeing how homes can be adapted for people with health conditions, disabilities, and changing mobility, Kim recognised that her clinical insight could bring something unique to the design world. This led her to study at the National Design Academy and launch Nest & Flourish Interiors - a studio dedicated to inclusive, evidence‑based design that enhances comfort, dignity, and independence.
“Beautiful Interiors Should Be for Everyone”
In the interview, Kim shares her belief that society must become more accessible and inclusive - and that interior design plays a vital role in that shift. She explains how her nursing background informs her approach, helping her design spaces that support wellbeing and reduce barriers for people with additional needs.
Her services include:
• Colour and wallpaper consultations tailored to sensory needs
• Home design consultations focusing on layout, flow, lighting, and storage
• Inclusive design solutions for disabilities, neurodivergence, and long‑term health conditions
Each project is shaped around the client’s lived experience, ensuring the space feels safe, functional, and beautifully personal.
A Growing Voice in Yorkshire’s Design Community
The York Press also highlights Kim’s involvement in the recent Meet the Media event in York, where she joined 30 other business owners to share her story and raise awareness of inclusive design across the region.
Nest & Flourish Interiors now supports clients across Yorkshire - including Leeds, York, Harrogate, and beyond - helping families and organisations create environments that truly work for the people who use them.
