At home with…Emma Longbottom
What makes a house feel like home? In “At Home With…,” I explore this question with fellow business owners and public figures, uncovering the unique ways they shape their spaces. Through a shared set of questions, each guest reveals what’s important to them—from treasured items to thoughtful design choices that reflect their lives and values.
Today, I’m thrilled to feature Wellbeing Coach and Holistic Practitioner, Emma Longbottom. Step inside as Emma shares her style, her inspirations, and the details that make her home a true reflection of who she is…

Let’s get Emma’s perspective on what makes a house a home…
Tell me a little bit about your home and who you share it with?
I live in East Leeds with my partner Andy, we've lived in our current home for 17 years. It's a 1940s 3 bed semi, with a lovely small garden and drive. It's a great location as we are only 10/15 minutes out of Leeds City Centre in one direction, and the countryside in the other!
What is your favourite spot in your home and why?
My office/studio is my favourite part of the house. My desk looks out onto the garden which is so nice. It's painted my favourite colour - purple and it has a great energy. I have designed it to be really multi-functional for my work, so that I can work on coaching calls, record yoga classes, offer energy healing and more in the space, but it can also turn into a lovely guest bedroom in a few minutes.
Do you have any family heirlooms, or items inspired by your family history in your home?
I don't really, other than photographs. We have however invested money into our home when we've received small inheritances, so we have lots of lovely reminders of family members who are no longer with us.
Do you have any quirky or unusual items?
I have eclectic taste so yes! My home contains many crystals and a lot of yoga props. I also love to do crafts so there are many items around our home that I have made myself, from an arm knitted throw to macrame wall hangings and plant hangers. But my favourite thing that I have made for our home is a picture that is hung on our orange kitchen wall - it's made up of song lyrics from songs that we love.
Emma made a picture for her kitchen comprised of favourite song lyrics.
What is the oldest thing in your house?
My partner! I do have photos, jewellery and some cookery books that I've inherited which are older, but not really anything home based.
What is the last thing you bought for your house?
Some new garden furniture! I'm very pleased with it as it has a table that can either be a coffee table or a dining table, so I am hoping we will get lots of use out of it in the Summer months. I am also planning to work on it when it's a nice day.
Emma loves to use colour in her home.
What colours have you used in your home and what inspired those choices?
I love bright colours, I find that they lift my mood and energy, and my home really reflects that. We have yellow in the hall, orange in the kitchen, plum in the lounge and lilac in my office/studio. The only room that is more neutral is our bedroom, which is cream and gold.
A well-designed home doesn’t only look great, it works on a practical level, and makes life easier for those who live there. Are there any life-enhancing, practical design features in your home?
We have designed our home to work for us on a daily basis but also to be flexible and adaptable when we have guests. So for example our dining table doubles in size so that on a daily basis it doesn't take up much room, but when we have guests we have plenty of space for everyone to sit. My office doubles as a guest room and the garden furniture offers us flexibility.
Emma has created a flexible layout, incorporating an extending dining table that can accommodate guests when needed.
If money were no object, where would you live and what would your home be like?
In Portugal over looking the ocean - it is our happy place.
Nest and Flourish Interiors is known for creating accessible and inclusive spaces, can you describe what makes you feel welcome and comfortable in a space?
Overall for me what makes me feel comfortable is the energy of a space, I pick up on it really quickly. I like spaces to be homely and comfortable but not too cluttered. I certainly wouldn't say that I'm minimalist but loads of 'stuff' makes me feel uncomfortable.
And what puts you off and makes you want to leave a space?
Negative energy makes me want to leave a space and also if it's so perfect I don't feel like I can relax, or if there is lots of stuff and clutter - so both ends of the spectrum.
What makes a house a home in your eyes?
People, love and positive energy. A home tells a story about you, how you live and who you are.
Tell me about your business, what you do, where you do it, who you help, and how people can contact you?
